Current Higher Education teaching work (2017)
Tutoring of the Open University Access Module, Y032 ‘People, Work and Society’. This involves one-to-one student support delivered by telephone and online tools. In some cases, such as students in the Forces overseas, I engage with them on Skype.
Other teaching-related work
Delivery and facilitation of staff development courses on using online tools for teaching within the Open University.
I co-authored online learning materials for the Social Work Post Qualifying Practice Learning (SS) award.
Social Work Practice Teaching
I undertake the practice teaching and assessing of students on qualifying social work courses and enjoy developing new placements, particularly ones where we can support students to work transprofessionally, in line with how work contexts for the people professions are changing.
As well as individual student supervision, I have worked with a range of group supervision models and piloted ways of working with colleagues in an enhanced link worker role, whereby I managed the placements from a distance and provided group supervision and teaching sessions. I was involved in developing Social Work practice teaching in Private Care Homes and had a paper on this work published in 2012.
