As a social worker to trade, I work in a range of teaching and student support roles. I enjoy working with individual students and get a real buzz from supporting them to become confident, competent workers. As well as working with qualifying social work students, I use similar skills with adult returners to education and feel priviledged to work with the Open University Access programme, Openings. I do some community-based Access work too, combining my tutoring and mentoring skills and getting to know fascinating people in the process. It is really important to share information about new ways of working and so I constantly evaluate and write-up some of the innovative work that I do; recently that has been in the field of new models of social work student placements. Revising a paper on this work for publication is a current project. In 2012 I have the privilege of working in the Scottish Parliament for Alison Johnstone MSP on a short-term contract as her campaigns manager. This enrichment of my work profile is fun, especially working in the lovely Parliament building.
When I am not working, I am travelling and the world just seems to get bigger as I explore it. Keeping in touch with my scattered family is a lifetime’s work in itself and means that I get to know various corners of the globe. This allows me also to indulge my interest in photography and I hope you like some of the images on this website – they are all mine. |
